How many ghosts were there in the Harry Potter series and name them.
There are at least twenty ghosts at Hogwarts, but not all of them are named, nor specifically mentioned. Here are the ones that are named:
Nearly Headless Nick: Otherwise known as Sir Nicholas, he is the Ghost of Gryffindor. He is one of the most friendly ghosts and helps Harry, Ron and Hermione on a number of occasions.
The Fat Friar: He is the Ghost of Hufflepuff House... and not much is really known about him.
The Bloody Baron: Ghost of Slytherin House who killed Helena Ravenclaw and then took his own life. He is the only one who can come close to controlling Peeves.
The Grey Lady: Otherwise known as Helena Ravenclaw, she was the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw and is now the Ghost of Ravenclaw. She ran off with her mother's diadem and was killed by the Baron in a fit of rage.
Moaning Myrtle: One of my favorite ghosts at Hogwarts, believe it or not! A former Ravenclaw, Myrtle was killed by the basilisk summoned forth by Tom Riddle. She interacts with the students on a number of occasions, including when she talked to Harry in the Prefects bathroom or was seen with Draco Malfoy in the boy's bathroom in Deathly Hallows.
Professor Binns: He's the History of Magic professor at Hogwarts.
Sir Patrick Delaney-Podmore: He's the leader of the Headless Hunt, but he does not reside at Hogwarts.
There are a few other ghosts mentioned at Sir Nick's Death Day party, including the Wailing Wido from Kent, a ragged ghost that is probably an allusion to Jacob Marley in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, a group of nuns, amongst others.
